Although financial difficulties and a lack of participation from area crafters forced the cancellation of the Harmar Days Street Festival in 2009, it will be back this year - along with the apple pie-baking contest. Members of the Harmar Bridge Company, who are organizing the event, have announced it is planned for July 31 and Aug. 1. "Financially this year, we're a little stronger," said Chuck Swaney, owner of FOUND on Maple Street in Marietta and a member of the company.

Two weeks ago, Kristin Good of the Mutual Ground domestic violence shelter was speaking to fourth-graders about staying safe. A day later, a 9-year-old boy from the class came forward for the first time to say he had been sexually abused. "It's because of support from funders like you that that boy is now being counseled at Mutual Ground and is in the process of recovery," Good told members of the Exchange Club of Naperville on Friday.

If CVS's plans come to fruition and they move their store across the street and down the block, it will mean the big building at the southwest corner of Main and Oak streets will be vacant again. CVS wants to build a new store at Prospect and Main streets, where the Ayerco convenience store is now. There's a hangup, having to do with where they're going to put the entrance to the parking lot; but they have architects and traffic engineers working on the problem, and I'm confident they'll work it out.

If all goes as planned, visitors and residents in Ketchum will have a new place to gather outdoors in time for the Fourth of July. The effort to create the Ketchum Town Plaza was launched last fall, and organizers quickly earned fundraising pledges of as much as $100,000. On Monday, the Ketchum City Council recognized the effort by matching it with $160,000 earned from new construction projects. "I hope that gets you to striking distance of getting this project completed," said Ketchum Mayor Randy Hal
